Deebo Samuel being traded to the New England Patriots is the best outcome for the 49ers and Pats

With Deebo Samuel recently requesting a trade from the 49ers, you have to look at the reality of what the league looks like at the moment. The Packers need a star for Rodgers, they will not trade to LA for a 2-3 time a year matchup, the Seahawks will not win a championship in their current state, and the Cardinals are just one injury-free year away from being contenders for the NFC Championship. To keep their best interest, San Fran should look to send him to the AFC and worry about him in a Super Bowl. The Patriots seem to be a good fit for this trade as they have added Devante Parker, Malcolm Butler, and Jabril Peppers in the offseason. Outside of Parker, they have not added anything to the offense that’s a game-changer. They’ve had a good relationship through previous successful trades so why shouldn’t that trend continue? Here is how the breakdown would look for both teams:

Nkeal Harry, Damien Harris who becomes a free agent after this upcoming season, and the 21st pick. If not that then the 54th pick, higher than that would be 10 picks. Rhamondre Stevenson shares similarities with Damien Harris in running style, as we saw this season, but with his contract going until 2025 and being cheaper than what the Patriots will now have to pay Harris after this season. It will be cheaper and easier for the patriots to trade Harris as they are getting a dual-threat in the backfield in exchange. With deebo demanding a trade, it seems as though this is something Bill Bellicheck could sway. Especially if he is able to trade up in the draft with players like Nelson Agholor and Ja’Whaun, he will be able to still give up the 21st and get a similar pick to boost the defense with LB Nakobe Dean in the first round. This would come from Pittsburgh most likely, but ideally, it would be a three-way trade with San Fran, the Pats, and the Bengals. The Chargers have already made a bunch of offseason moves to bolster their roster and they don’t particularly need the first-round pick or to fill a position with a major defensive threat in the draft. If they can somehow benefit on the defensive side of the ball in the trade and really only lose a pick to the pats for possibly two defensive players in Ja’Whaun Bentley and Mack Wilson with the 49ers running backs Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty, why shouldn’t they? It’s Bill Bellicheck so who knows.

Patriots Receive: Deebo Samuel and 17th pick

49ers Receive: Nkeal Harry, Damien Harris, Nelson Agholor. 21st round pick

Chargers: Ja’Whaun Bentley, Mack Wilson, Jeff Wilson, Jamycal Hastings.

Patriots positive long-term connection of Mac Jones and Deebo Samuel. The Patriots are in need of an offensive threat to open the offense for Mac Jones to learn and develop to his potential. This will create an opportunity for Mac Jones to throw the ball to the skilled receiving core of Jakobi Meyers, DeVante Parker, and Kendrick Bourne. Deebo’s ability to run the ball and go out wide expands the playbook. Since the Pats are projected to draft all defensive players, with their three-picks. The offseason acquisition of Malcolm Butler and Jabrill Peppers is a good start and with this trade, the Pats can still acquire their desired defensive player but won’t need to focus on the waiting game during the draft.

San Fran gains a first-round pick that they did not originally have. This allows better options to boost a now starless receiving core. They gain a great running back in Damien Harris with veteran Nelson Agholor and Nkeal Harry. Harry is a great blocking WR and Agholor is a great option for Lance and Garropollo to throw deep. They have the ability to trade backup running backs for anything picks with Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty signing only one-year deals. With as injury prone as we’ve seen in a team during a season, the 49ers need to obtain running backs that have been durable in heavy run offenses such as the Patriots. They also can release players to open cap space with the potential duo of Elijah Mitchell and Damien Harris, two strong and sturdy running backs, who would thrive in this run-heavy offense.
